Just on an outside chance, try looking up the hotel that the coachs wife has picked on Expedia or Cheap Hotels.com. Or any other one of these sites for that matter. I have often found that there is a big swing in prices on hotel rooms and airline fairs. You do have to book in advance for these, but often get a deep discount. Another thought, do you have AAA. You could call and see if you can get your room on a AAA discount. Last chance, try bargaining. The prices are not set in stone, trust me. And in this economy, they might want to book a room for $20.00 less that loose a booking altogether!

I did this option..checking expedia...and the catch is...you have to pay at time of booking. We cannot afford it this month....we have to book and pay later...

I thought of bartering, too. It's "only" $20 per day--to the hotel industry (and in this economy like Pam said), that's nothing. Just ask if they can match the price of the lesser place. It's worth a shot.

I have two different opinions, lol.

I am a germaphobe when it comes to hotels -- I can hardly bring myself to sleep in their bedding (I actually used to bring my own comforter & pillow), so if I found a hair in the bathtub and/or bug in the toilet, I would have complained and asked someone to re-clean the room. Would I have stayed there again on another trip? Probably not.

BUT, $40 is a lot of extra money for your hotel room when, like you said, that alone could cover your food cost. If I were in that situation, I would have to stay at a different hotel most likely. If the cost is the actual issue and will affect your budget/make things tight, definitely go with your gut and get your own hotel. Your daughter will be upset most likely but if all you do is sleep there, it won't affect her ability to hang out with the team. [/B]
Same here. With all the talk about bed bugs at hotels, seeing how they clean their glasses (or don't clean them), etc., makes me extremely picky about where I stay. It would be worth more the $40 to me to stay in a cleaner hotel. Yes, bugs can happen, but I'd be totally NOT wanting to stay there, either.

This is probably why I never have any money ( ) but to me it is just $40 and to see my kid happy and with her friends would be totally worth it. As for this place being supposedly cleaner, I think ALL hotels are dirty, no matter what they cost a night, so the filth-factor wouldn't even be an option for me.

Maybe you could pay the $40 this one time and while you are at the hotel, talk to the other parents and see how they feel. Maybe someone would want to take on the task of bargain shopping for hotels.

I'm a bit 'crazy' when it comes to hotel rooms and cleanliness- and most often that's a deal breaker for me too.....but that being said...I think if the new hotel won't come down $20 in price, then stay at the other one if it's fine for you and your daughter. There's not so much of a difference between the two except the prices...and who knows even in the other 'nicer' one she may find some bugs or hairs.

$40, like you said, can be put towards food or gas..and makes a difference.

I feel the same way. Heck, you could be in a 5-star Hotel, and find a bug, or a hair. Honestly, what are you going to do?

I find a bug in my house, and I kill it. Doesn't mean I'm going to move ~

The rest of my house is clean. A bug just happened to stop by unannounced.

So now thinking of your daughter, and her event. I would pay the extra $40, and skimp on whatever else you can, since
it would be cool for her to hang in the same Hotel, as her friends. I'm thinking she may feel left out, during this big event,
and it's not worth it. But next year, get the other parents involved before this gal makes plans.

Okay, now for what I would do. I would stay in the same hotel, visit her room, use the bathroom, and throw a dead bug in the toilet ~

I do not find a bug as a sign of dirtiness, nor a single hair. If that were the case, we are all dirty.

Now, if you want to talk food, that's a different story.

I'd stay at the cheaper hotel and be $40.00 ahead!! A bug can find it's way into even themost expensive of hotels and a hair is no big deal (as long as it's not in my food).
