I know there are other threads on this topic but I wanted to verify the dosage. I bought the bubble gum flavored dye free alcohol free benadryl. My question is the dosage I should give Bailey. She weighs 9 pds and according to the dosage table she would get 9 millimeters is this correct? It just seems like alot to me so I just wanted to double check because I know alot of ya'll give benadryl to your babies.

Hi Becky,

I'm not sure about the dosing on liquid Benadryl. When I tried it on Zooey, the dosage was 1 mg. per lb. It seemed like a lot since that's about the same dose I take (!!), but dogs have different systems than we do and they tolerate antihistamines differently. Sorry I'm not sure about the liquid, but I know others will chime in

The vet had me give Laure. 5 ml which is 1 teaspoon, or 1/4 of the 25mg tablet. She weighs 6pounds.

Karli has allergies and when she is scratching/biting her feet, I usually try 1/2 of the recommended Benadryl dose. Many times this is enough. If she continues to have symptoms after giving the 1/2 dose time to work, I give her the other half.

Is it for allergies? Some have suggested Zyertex (sp?) so hopefully Sue will jump in here.

Yes its for allergies she keeps biting and licking her paws and her front legs. I am noticing now Lucky is starting to do it but not has much as Bailey.

mine lick and bite their paws.....but I was told they are just being Nancy ninny goats nibbling on their nails..... like what people do!!!

Lady got Zyrtec for her allergies for ten years. Per the NC State Vet School pharmacy, 1/4 tablet was the correct dosage for her (9 pounds).

This website has the dosage for Benedryl and other OTC medications.

OTC Medications

It is always a good idea to check with your vet before giving any OTC medications.
