Pat -- so glad that your Mom is doing well and that you were able to stay with her. I'm sure that she was glad that you were there.

Have a safe trip and a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I work in a heart hospital and it looks like the radial artery (wrist) is the way the cardiologists are being taught these days. Most of our older ones still prefer the femoral artery (groin) because it is the way they were taught and have done for years. The brachial artery (upper arm) is another way they sometimes do it. The advantage of doing the one in the wrist is that you can sit up after the procedure is over. Going through the groin, you have to lay flat for up to 6 hours, depending on how they closed the site. There is a risk of hemorrhage any of the areas.

Thank you for that great information. It was very helpful .

Pat, just now seeing this....glad your Mom had her stents and is home even though she had a time at first. I hope everything will be alright. Did they discover this before a heart attack? I hope so. This is what happened to my husband but he has been fine since 2001 with his 3 stents. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with her and the family!!!

Pat, I'm glad your mom is doing better. She will feel so much better with that stent in place. I've had numerous caths done through the groin (I have 5 stents in my heart) but the last cath I had done was in the wrist. SOoooooooo much better and soooo much easier. I was really hesitant about the procedure being done different than the others had been, but it was a lot less everything.
