Oh NO - Jury Duty - Maltese Dogs Forum : Spoiled Maltese Forums

On top of everything else, I had received a summons for Grand Jury Duty. Today was orientation and to let us know if we would be picked as a permanent Grand Juror. I was hoping that I wouldn't be picked, however, not only was I picked, but I'm also the Foreperson for the Jury.

This means that every Thursday for the next 13 weeks, I have to be on Grand Jury Duty from 9:00-5:00. Luckily they won't be meeting on 12/27/12 or 1/3/13, so it won't spoil my trip to France. So I guess I'm lucky because I will only have 11 weeks of service.

We had orientation all morning -- BORING!!! But we did 4 Hearings this afternoon -- 3 we sent onto trial and 1 we didn't.

This should be an interesting 13 weeks. And yes, I get paid - $6.25/hr. Luckily, my company pays for 12 days of jury duty each year

Been there done that twice...I tried to get out of a case of reckless operation
(they ran a stop sign and hit someone)since I was the victim of the same thing..Not a chance...!
The other was a DUI...
I got a whole $7 for 3 days... I also got stuck being jury foreperson since I had 2 years of law...note to self, never divulge you have any college or any law experience...play dumb!

. Maybe you'll end up getting some interesting cases. I'm so glad it isn't going to conflict with your trip to Paris though!

The Grand Jury is better than a Trial Jury, imho -- we only have to decide if there is enough probable cause to send the cases to trial. Most times we don't even get to meet or hear from the "target" which is what they call the suspect.

The Trial Jury has the much harder job, imho, of deciding whether or not there is reasonable doubt and if they will convict the defendant.

Probable cause is much easier than reasonable doubt.

Sorry Lynn. As if you weren't busy enough. But at least it didn't interfere with your trip. And just think $6.25 an hour how much more you'll be able to shop in France.

Wow! And I thought Florida was cheap! I got called for past October, I guess cancer is good for something, my onc. Got me out of it. DH tells them his dad was a cop. It's true, but they don't ask where or when, so he gets excused.

Glad you can still make your trip...someone is keeping you busy. At first I thought oh no, but every Thursday doesn't sound so bad and it's a better situation than a trial as you said. But really who'd have imagined that would come up right now of all times.
