It's almost time to pick out the countertops for our new house and we are getting granite. We just have laminate right now. Anyone who has granite, can you give me the pros and cons of granite. Is it easy to maintain and keep looking good. We were thinking of a darker colour but then I got worried that maybe it would show water spots or fingerprints. (fingerprints on stuff drives me nuts). Anything you can think of to tell me would be a help. Thanks.

We have dark granite in our bathrooms. It does show water spots pretty easily and any dust. I really do love it though and hope to one day have it in the kitchen also

It's black with some taupe like dots in it I think. Anything dark will show dust, so you may want to go with something a bit lighter. The dark granite really does show stuff. I love it though and at least I know when it's clean

I have multi colored dark gold granite. I love it. What I didn't know, is that you can chip granite. I have a small chip at the edge of my sink where I'm sure I banged some pots while cleaning. The processed combination granite products are more durable, but not as pretty imo. I love the imperfections and movement of real granite, and with very little care, it should last a lifetime.
