Ads don't bother me, when we watch TV it's usually recorded so we by pass them.

I use ad block plus and am happy with it.
I also record all off my TV shows to avoid the commercials. I am sure if everyone did then they would find a way around it.

I never want to deprive anyone of a livelihood. But, come on guys, do you really feel obligated to put your hard earned money in the pockets of internet billionaires? If so, look inside and ask if you are indoctrinated? Facebook is worth about one dollar a year to me. Or, I could do without it. If you ignore ads, you are just a step behind not seeing them...if you buy junk you don't want because you saw an ad...then that is a different category. In my whole life, I have never been swayed by advertising. Capitalism and advertising and lies may very well be the status quo, but I am not buying into it.

I buy products that don't need to have a ton of advertising behind them. I avoid products that cost six times as much as necessary to pay for advertising. I am proud that I taught my son not to want crappy sugar cereals, because they were promoted by fifty ads a day.

I guess I am not a capitalist.

Sylvia, let's remember that each of us is entitled to our own opinions and thoughts on a variety of subjects and that not all of us thinks or acts the same way. That's exactly what makes this world such a wonderful place to be!

When it comes to advertising, I suspect that we are all entertained by ads, sometimes informed, and that we each make our own decisions based on a wide variety of reasons and influences that are too complex to attribute to one specific thing.

Your comments sound a bit judgmental, though. I'm glad you were able to steer your son away from sugary cereals, but let's not condemn people because their kids (or they themselves) like coco puffs!

Gee, Maggy. I didn't think I was condemning anyone for their choices...just saying that we are often victims of very clever advertising. I have been called judgmental before. There is a certain irony in that. You know I'm really short, and sometimes I just can't help climbing up on that soapbox. I'm getting down now.

I think it is kinda like pirating software. People do it, still doesn't make it the ethical thing to do. Every time you don't pay for software, you're stealing from that company.

Every time you block ads, you're stealing content without paying back. From Google, Yahoo, Facebook; or worse, from smaller bloggers. This is how a lot of smaller bloggers make money too. But you(proverbial) are going to their website, reading their content, and not letting them get paid for it. MZ might not need that extra money, but that mom blogger might.
