Hi everyone. I am the new mom to Daisy. She is 11 weeks old. So far has been doing pretty good. Sleeps through the night. Goes potty outside with scheduled outings. I have a few problems. I know she is a puppy, but how do I teach her not to nip? She nips at our feet and hands. Especially when she is playing. I just say "no" and then give her a toy. When she starts playing I tell her she is a good girl. Second problem
she wants to scratch the carpet by my couch. I have not had a puppy since I was a kid and am now 50 years old and not really sure about how to handle these kinds of things. Other than that she is super sweet. She does like to run like crazy in our yard and has escaped through the picket fence! Yikes. I have another question I just thought of. How do I bathe her? How can I keep her face clean without staining? Thank you in advance!

Hi and welcome to SM!
how long have you had Daisy? Do you mind if I ask where you got her? It sounds like she may have been taken away from her littermates and mom too early and didn't learn the ever important 'bite inhibition' that they learn from their littermates. Sounds like you are doing a good job of correcting her and giving her something else to chew. Almost all the malts I know like to 'dig to china' as we call it here, it's fairly normal behavior. Is their food involved? Sometimes, mine do that when they are trying to 'bury' their food. At 11 weeks, she shouldnt' need a bath too frequently but make sure to use a shampoo/conditioner formulated for puppies. Which shampoo to get is question that will get you a huge array of different answers! I usually use Biogroom Fluffy Puppy or Nature's Specialty products, which are safe for puppies over 8 weeks. I usually bathe my dogs in the kitchen sink and blow dry afterwards. There are dryers with stands so you have a hand free or you can have a family member man the dryer. good luck and looking forward to seeing more pics!

Welcome to you and Daisy. I agree that there are a lot of threads you can check on the grooming and behavior sections for problems you're having. I hope you're getting something to close off anywhere in your fence where she can get through. Maybe some sort of netting on the inside of the lower portion. I think you also have to be careful of where your young puppy is running around but best to ask others here who have had young pups. I got mine when he was 9 months old. Good luck.

Welcome to SM, so glad to have you! Yes, you can find lots of info here on puppies and their behavior problems. Please be careful about her and the picket fence. There are a lot of people that would like to have a cute, sweet little maltese dog. Good luck with her!!!
