Hi everyone,
Like a lot of folks I've been browsing the site for a long time prior to joining. My family had a Maltese (Snowy) when I was younger and fell in love with the breed then. My first dog of my own 'Chelsea' is a Maltese. Who I purchased from a lady who was a byb. She bred her two Malts once which resulted in two pups. One of which I bought. Back then most folk bought from an ad in the paper or a petshop. (Now of course we know a heap different) Chelsea is my 13 year old precious girl. She has been an amazingly healthy girl and has only had teeth out and a mammary lump removed. I absolutely love her and she is like my 4th skin kid! In July this year I noticed that even though she was eating heaps, she was loosing weight and had swollen neck glands. Took her to the vet who said 'its most likely lymphoma' we can do an aspirate to conform or you can just make her comfortable at home. She doesn't have long. I was devastated and took her home with some steroids. After thinking about it, I decided to do the aspirate. The scientist in me wanted proof. In the meantime I had placed an application with a local show breeder to go on the waiting list for a puppy. (Thinking it would be a year or so away) Anyways to make a long story short - the aspirate showed that the glands were just salivary. We then did X-rays......nothing remarkable......bloods good etc. so we gave her a course of antibiotics just to be sure....over $1000 later we had no idea what was wrong with her but 3 months later she has put weight back on and is looking so much better. It's a mystery to us all. I got in contact with the show breeder who approved us to purchase a puppy. I wanted a little girl. On the 8th October our little girl was born. A singleton which was born via c-section. 2 days later one of the breeders other girls had two male pups. So our girl wouldn't grow up alone. Her mum is a retired Champion and her dad achieved his champion status just last week! So we have not only been blessed with Chelsea staying with us but we will be bringing home a new member of our family in a couple of weeks. (she is 8 weeks at the moment) - we to to see her next week. ![]() So back to the puppy stage I go! Here are some puppy (who is still nameless) pics and of my Chelsea girl. Hugs |

Welcome to SM! We're glad you joined our forum!
Aw, your Chelsea looks like our Tiffany, also a BYB doggie, but we love her to bits! Tiffany is 16, so she is definitely getting up there but has been pretty healthy for an older gal. Congrats on your puppy-- she is precious! I'm sure the wait will seem like an eternity, but when you get her home she will feel like she has been a part of your family forever! We love pictures, so keep them coming, especially once you finally get her home! |

I'm so glad Chelsea is doing well! She wasn't ready to leave you yet and I hope she doesn't give you a scare like that again. Congrats on your new baby! She is just beautiful and I know you can't wait to get her home!
