greetings everybody!
i need some advice please! have a 14 week old maltese puppy and i noticed about 2 weeks ago his left eyelid was swollen, i took him to the vet ER they first tried to lance it and no pus/drainage came out, then he gave him amoxicillin thinking was infected bug bite or sty and we saw no improvement. Then it spread to his other eye and both eyelids became swollen. I took him again to vet and then they gave me neomycin polymyxin / steroid drops and it sort of helped. but they are still swollen it has been two weeks. i don't know if it is allergies and he is allergic to something in the house so now i bought everything free and clear. i am going to take him to a vet ophthalmologist soon if it doesn't go away soon. i am giving him benadryl and i stopped his drops because the third time i took him to vet (its a walk-in clinic so i see different one each time) said i should stop giving him steroid drops because it hurts his cornea. i bought grain free food and haven't given him anything new to eat. i also use hypoallergenic tear free shampoo to bathe him. he is not having any other symptoms. however one of the vets said could be an autoimmune disease ,, even lupus?

has anyone had anything similar to this happen?

newbie: swollen eyelids

hello everyone

my puppy developed swollen eyelids, have seen 3 vets already (i am currently in walk-in clinic so have seen 2 there and also took him to vet ER). it has somewhat improved but if it doesn't resolve this week or worsen I'm going to take him to ophthalmologist.

does anybody recommend any tearless products to clean my maltese puppy's face ? i was using a little bit of johnsons baby shampoo on a wet cloth but vet told me that the dogs' ph is different so need to use a puppy shampoo. i am currently using a little bit of earthbath puppy hypoallergenic shampoo on a wet cloth to get the wet food material out of his face. should i just use water?

PS i attached some pics of my baby's face :(

vaccines

he had his DAPPV (1ST) on 6/25 and i first noticed his eyelid was swollen on 7/6... is that too long after his shots? also i gave him free sample of heartgard on 6/25 as well. Im not sure what is causing his eyelids to swell but i am going to a new vet tomorrow for a second opinion.

no purulent discharge. he is active and playful, eating well. just his eyelids :(

I would be very careful giving vaccines in conjunction with other medications, as it would be hard to tell what could be causing the reaction.

I would not give further vaccines until the vets get this figured out, as it could very well be a reaction to one or the other.

If he gets additional vaccinations at some point I would recommend you stay at the vet for at least an hour afterwards in case of an anaphylactic reaction. Many vets will recommend pre-dosing with Benedryl, I would be opposed to that as well, as it only masks/delays the reaction.

My Bayleigh has been thru that twice, very severe and scary. Both her eyes swelled and became extremely itchy, but it was within an hour of the vaccine. The 2nd time, after hours of treatment, as soon as I took her home, it happened again and they kept her overnight. She now has a medical waiver, as the next vaccine would likely kill her.

Hopefuly that's not what this is, but I'm suspicious.

So sorry to hear that your baby is not feeling well. I hope he gets better soon.

I use Tropiclean SPA Fresh Facial Cleanser tearless. It's all natural. Soap and detergent free. I use it every night to clear her face because she eats homemade food and it gets in her hair.
