Heart I'm back. Update on us.

Hello all,

Not sure how many of you will remember us. It's been quite some time since I've been active here. A lot has changed in my life, so I thought I would give you a quick recap.

It will be 2 years that I lost my beloved Zoe this August. There are times the pain is as fresh and raw as the day we said good bye. But more and more I'm able to smile when a memory comes. Jett turned 11 this May and still runs and plays like a young puppy. Callie will be 8 this August and her tail still moves at lightening speed...non-stop. I've always believed it unfair to your older one get a young puppy, and vet behaviorists will tell you it's best to have multiples within 1-3 years of each other. So there are times I worry when I realize my young puppies are now considered seniors at the vet. But we know with toy breeds, they really are truly only middle age. Both Jett & Callie are doing exceptionally well physically and behaviorally. Jett had some pretty severe issues, both physically and behaviorally, for a while during an extremely stressful time in our lives. Being my 'earth dog' (according to TCHVM) he's extremely in tune with me and I realize now that my emotional state during that time contributed to his issues, as well as some major life changes. We've worked long and hard to get to a good place with the help of our Integrative Vet, Holistic Vet, Vet Behaviorist and mentor dog trainer. Those who remember me know I've always had a passion to learn and this has not changed. I'm continually researching new studies and new developments.

I had to close my store 2 1/2 years ago. It was crushing to lose my dream. I've had to go through two different places of employment to get to my current position. Which has surprisingly turned into a dream job. I see now why I was in both previous places of employment for approximately a year each. I do not ever wish to go through what I've been through in the past 3 years...well actually more like 5, again. Saying it was not a good time in my life is like saying living through a tornado was like a spring breeze. But going through what I've been through has made me beyond grateful for the good I'm experiencing now. It has changed me. I cherish every good thing I'm experiencing.

Since my father passed away, my mother has gotten ill. She has stage 4 lymphoma and has undergone chemo. She is symptom free at this time. There is no curing the type of lymphoma she has. The goal is to keep her symptom free. Unfortunately chemo has caused her to develop 2 different lung diseases. Bronchiectasis and most likely Pulmonary Fibrosis. Her last CT scan was not conclusive on this, but it's what her pulmonologist believes it to be. She will have another CT scan in a couple of months to see how quickly the diseases are progressing and will hopefully have a conclusive diagnosis at that time. Again, there is no cure. The goal is to slow the progression and keep her symptoms at a minimum. She will live with me as long as possible. Hopefully until it's time to say goodbye. I'm grateful that I have this time with her and can be here for her to help. She has her good days where she can go out to lunch with friends, and even run a few errands. Although this is extremely fatiguing to her. And on her bad days, she stays home and J&C make sure she's not lonely and getting her prescribed amount of love and snuggles.

I'm contemplating changing my User Name. I use my iPhone for most everything, and I discovered the '&' sign makes it impossible for me to log onto SM from my phone. And it still hurts to realize the whole reason I discovered and joined SM was for my Zoe, and she's no longer with me here on earth. I also need to upgrade my membership and am grateful I'm in a position to be able to do so. Zoe's illness was a financial hardship that has taken me a long time to recover from. So I plan on being active here again. I look forward to reconnecting to those who aren't on FB, and getting to know those who joined after I took my extended 'leave of absence'.

Blessings to you all!

xoxo,
Crystal, Jett & Callie

Welcome back Crystal. I do remember you from before. I was so sad when you lost Zoe and when your store closed. We are FB friends so I also remember when one of your pups was lost, and thankfully a neighbor had found her. It was such a blessing. Looking forward to pics of Jett and Callie!

Oh Sherry I think you may have me confused with someone else. Thankfully none of my babies have ever been lost. Maybe something I shared about a lost dog in my area? I share those quite often.

That must be it! It was a couple years ago.

Boy, you have had a challenging couple of years. I often wish we could freeze ourselves in the perfect moment of our lives. I am sorry that Zoe had passed. I am not sure whether Sherry meant lost in the sense of passed on or the sense of ran away. My father also has lymphoma, and it was difficult to watch him become thinner and thinner and weaker and weaker. He needed blood transfusions every few weeks.

Hi Crystal, Welcome back. I do see you on face book occasionally but it is nice that you are back on SM too. I must admit though, I am not on either one a lot of the time. Life keeps getting in the way.

Welcome back, Crystal. Like Lynda, I am on on FB occasionally, but, I cannot seem to find a lot of time these days to post much. Even on Spoiled Maltese, sometimes I cannot post as much as I would like. I am here more because of my friends who are not on FB ... and this has been my SM family throughout the years ... we have gone through so many good and bad times together. Facebook does have it's advantages, like, for myself, keeping in touch with my granddaughter, Ashley, and with friends I went to school with ... so I can understand why so many SM members are there, too.

I am sorry about your mother. She is blessed to be there with you ... and that she can also spend time snuggling and loving with Callie and Jett. I am sure you are such a comfort to her.

I was surprised when your store closed. Your store had so many lovely things. Believe it or not ... I still have the endearing *love letters* that Zoe and Callie sent Snowball that arrived with purchases made from your boutique.

I am happy for you that your new job has turned out to be wonderful.

It's hard to believe that it will be two years in August since Zoe passed. She was beautiful. You were the perfect mommy for her. Now she is an angel in Heaven ... and, I am sure her loving spirit is right there looking over you.

Like Snowball, it is hard to believe Jett is eleven years old already. It is amazing that they can still act and look like puppies ... even for those of us who have Malt's with serious health issues. I have to smile every time a stranger refers to Snowball as a puppy. And, Callie is eight! It's scary how fast time flies.

I have seen a few Maltese who have lived to at least eighteen years old. When someone was asked what she was doing for her Malt's ... she said they have always had home cooked meals and have had dentals every year.

Several of us are experiencing fluffs with a history of oxalate stones. I would love to know your thoughts on this. I am working with a veterinary nutritionist, Dr. Donna Raditic, who teaches at the University of Tennessee. She is also in partnership with Dr.Becker (Marcela). Snowball is not taking to the prescribed Balance IT supplement which is added in with his food. So, this has been a challenge to try and get him to eat. So, it sounds as though Dr. Raditic is going to recommend another supplement that might be almost as good as she thinks the Balance IT is. It's been a challenge to say the least.
