Sophie will be 18 weeks tomorrow and she has some tear-staining. I have been diligently cleaning her face everyday with Spa Lavish facial scrub and making sure that her face stays as dry as possible. My vet told me that I could use peroxide on a cotton ball and gently wipe the stains to fade them. I am wondering what is the best way to get rid of the stains that she has. I have read that they will have tear stains until they are done teething. At what age should they be done teething? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
I want my baby to have a pretty white face.

Its pointless to be bleaching the face while the dog is still tearing. They are done teething when all baby teeth have fallen out or are pulled. So 6 months. However, they can have teething trouble up to 9 months when they lose molars.

I have been giving Delilah Angel's Glow 3x's per week, 1/8 of a teaspoon. I also make sure the the hairs that poke her in the eyes are trimmed. I guess it's working, but I am going to try to cut it back to 2 times per week and see how that goes.

i think its prob down to her teething stage? I would wait a while and see if they clear up. Floees were really bad - shes a year old in 2 weeks and are getting better now
id wait before putting anything on her face like that

You are doing the best thing for Sophie's tear stains right now -- just trying to keep the area clean & dry.
Regarding the peroxide, you can use it (the pharmacy type in the brown bottle) and it does work, but it just bleaches the hair and will make it dry and brittle if you use it often. I would use it about once every 2 months on London when she had tear staining and that was fine. I would put it on at night before bedtime, and the next morning I would bathe her (for her weekly bath) and make sure to condition the treated area well. I didn't have any problems with brittleness or breakage, but some members have I think. |

I would caution against pumping our little fluffs with drugs and antibiotics.
Tearing is a natural function to lubricate their eyes. Just clean the area below the eyes with a slightly moist cloth to remove extra fluid and prevent bacterial build up. Personally, I would not put peroxide or any chemicals near the eyes. |
