Fleas!! Need advice - Maltese Dogs Forum : Spoiled Maltese Forums

I found two fleas on Cici, I got one of them out but the other is still in her hair, and I don't know if there's more.

She's on Trifexis but I don't know if she didn't get enough of the dose last time because she kept spitting it out with the cheese, I had to make it into powder so some of the medication might have been lost. It's been over 40 minutes and the flea have not died so I'm guessing the med is not working?

She has one more week left before her month is up and needs more flea medication, but can I put some Frontline on her now? Or do I have to wait one more week when it's time for her next month of flea medication?

Is there any "home remedy" type bath I can give her tonight that might kill the fleas? I would just feel so bad leaving her sleep with those nasty things on her.

I'm going to try to take them out with a flea comb, but if there's something I can put on he to make extra sure I got all of them that would be great.

I wish I knew! If it were me, I would get some flea shampoo, wash, and then rewash her immediately with another shampoo, but others probably have much better advice!

Dawn dishwashing liquid. When I found a flea on Laurel last year the vet put her on Comfortis

Yes, I agree witht he Dawn dishwashing soap for a bath. It will kill the fleas but not prevent them from jumping back on. I would call the vet and see if you could do a dose of Frontline.

I will add: Wash all her bedding, blankets, and toys.... If she sleeps on your bed - the same.

Fleas... yuck!

Do NOT use flea shampoo. It has some nasty chemicals in it.

Dish soap (dawn, joy) will kill any fleas. You can do a dose of a topical. I find Advantage to be better than Frontline on the fleas this year. It is fine to give either one with the Trifexis.

I would switch to Frontline Plus as Pam suggested. It kills all the life stages of fleas including eggs and larvae.

Thanks everyone! I had read in the package it took 30 minutes but I must have misread it and that was just the time it took to start working.

I gave her some frontline. For next month I'm considering changing to comforts, anyone like that one?
