Growing up, my family had dogs. My mom would love them for a while and get tired of them. They would be inside/outside dogs. People had dogs that they used for hunting and they mainly lived outside. Dogs were a convenience. Something to do when you were bored. Chain em up outside, feed them whatever was on sale or scraps left over from dinner, and go out and pet them when you walked by or you felt the need.

They would keel over if they knew my dog has been with me one day and already has his own wardrobe started. He sleeps on real blankets and not straw or the ground. He has been rocked to sleep! And heaven forbid...my dog has his own health insurance policy!

Yup, my brother thinks I'm nuts over Tyler but I also assure you that he isn't going to pay Tyler's vet bills if anything goes wrong. Crystal - you do know this forum is called SPOILED Maltese?

It's sad but that is how it was. I try not to think about the dogs we had growing up, it makes me so sad. My late brother however was such an animal lover that he always brought the dog's inside and made sure that they got a lot of attention and care. I was petrified of dog's as a kid , even small ones.

It's still this way in some places (mostly rural, farming communities).

But, as Sue said -- we have SPOILED (yes, very, very spoiled) Maltese!!!

I still get the "he's just a dog for heaven's sake".

Makes me so angry b/c he is part of my family. I say....Let's spoil them all we want!!

My brother told me the other night "when you got that dog it sucked all your brain cells out of your head".

When they say, "It's just a dog for heaven sake," look them dead in the eye and respond, without missing a beat, "Really? Well, it's just a kid for heaven sake..." Typically, shuts them up and if it doesn't a resounding "My dog won't talk back, break into my liquor cabinet or run up my credit cards and trash my credit on a whim... I'm thinking my dog wins, yes?"

My sister is one of those people who makes her dog live in the garage.

It makes me so angry! It makes me even more angry when she won't even TRY to understand how I feel about Pipper and she doesn't understand why I won't leave him alone for long periods of time and go do stuff with her . She thinks I'm crazy! She just doesn't have a clue.

Though my family members do make fun of me, they are overall very good about it. My mom is really good at making fun of me, but we all know she would do the same things for her little pom if my dad would let her get away with it.

And lets not forget who went on a shopping spree for clothing for Rocky last Christmas!

My DH is the same way & he's actually jealous of my dogs! I love them SO much, & love spoiling them! Of course, I spoil all my grown kids & DH too though! They are just part of my family & when my DH sez them or me, I'll say nice knowing ya! LOL!
