I'm terribly worried about my little one's ears. She seems to constantly have ear infections. She's been to the vet several times & he has even knocked her out so as he could go right in to the ear & clear it out & she's had 3 lots of anti biotics over 3 years & still has infections. Today I took her to the beauty parlour & was told the insides are all inflamed again although she's not scratching. I clean them out every week & am at my wits end as what to do next. Can anyone help? I am in the UK so until I get back to the US next year I am unable to obtain American store bought medications. Thanks

I'm so sorry your baby keeps getting the ear infections. Leila got one about a week after I got her. They gave her an ear cleaning liquid to use and a liquid antibiotic to put in her ears. They also plucked out the hair inside her ears. She said I should use cottonballs in her ears when I bathe her and make sure the ears are all the way dry after her baths. However...I'm still having some trouble keeping the cottonballs in her ears during the bath because she shakes them out.

So sorry to hear that. I know how you feel. My Charlie's been prone to ear infections for the first year and a half...then I asked my groomer to pluck the ear-hair and changed his diet.
I'm not sure, but I think ear infections can have some link to the allergies. Hope you'll find the solution that works for your baby. Hugs and scritches, Katie & Charlie |

Jo, there is a thread where you can post any health concerns and the veterinary tech will help you out.
It's worth a try...maybe she'll have some good suggestions for you. |

Thank you so much. I will try the cotton in her ears when I wash her & will change her food. We have tried everything else so maybe one of these ideas will work. There are so few Maltese in England that people have no idea what she is or how to clip her :-(

There is a product called Zymox Otic HC 1.o% Enzymatic Solution you might be able to order from Amazon UK. I bought the clinic size (8 fl. oz) and keep it in the fridge as it is so warm here (leave it out to warm before putting in the ear). My vet approved it here. Be sure to read the directions as one doesn't clean the ear beforehand & it needs to be shaken when used. I only used it a couple of times but it is a good product.

Hi Jo,
I am sorry to hear about Chouchou continuing ear infections. I'm sure it is not pleasant for the little girl and for you. When Biscuit was younger he too had ear infections and our Vet had to prescribe a medication to give him. Unfortunately I don't have the name since it has been so long ago. The Vet also suggested that we feed him the following food and treat to help with any potential allergetic response that could contribute to his ears infections. I hope this help and that Chouchou would get past the ears infectoins soon and have a fun and cheering lifestyle. You are in good hands with the knowleagable SM family here.
