It depends a lot on the dog. Some of my dogs need dentals every year no matter what I do (starting around 18 months). Roo is 4 1/2 and has never had one. I think a lot of it is genetic as far as the bone density in the mouth and gum disease.

I take mine once per year, but I don't think dentals are as thorough in Greece & I don't think they polish teeth afterward---which can cause MORE tartar build-up! Lisi hasn't had one yet, and she is 15 months old.

I've got one who goes in every 6 months, 2 who go in once a year, one who's on an every other year schedule, and one who has never had one. Go figure.
