Default De worming & heart worm prevention

Hi everyone,

I been de worming Boo for the past 5 months, I never seen a worm in his stool before. He'll be 6 months by the end of this month. The vet says I can do a test but it's normally every 6 months I should give him the pill. Should i give it to him one more time and than do the test or just do the test? And for the heart worm prevention, I read that some of you still use it all year round. Should I still put some on him even though there's no mosquito's or any summer bugs anymore.

Shirley, what kind of heart worm prevention are you presently using? It really depends on your area w/the worming meds. I have been doing it here every 6 months & just found out from my ER vet that it needs to be each month as there are so many worms on the ground, soil, etc. here! I use Milbemax for worms & it also covers heart worm (& tapeworm).

I don't remember the name but I get the heart worm from the vet. But it covers heart worms, tape worms, round ones, all kinds actually. I'll find out the name the next time I'm at the vet. They just apply it on his skin. Isn't heart worm application for april-nov only?

Since I travel w/both of mine I use it all year. Also, there is the odd chance of getting a contaminated mosquito in the house here in the winter, in Athens. I am not willing to chance it.
