Jack does not like kids!

Young children have a very different energy than adults and older children. They are more chaotic and excited.

Dogs are further confused because a child's energy is excitement but the sound they make when playing(to a dog) is that of being wounded or scared. It's usually high pitched squeals and loud hollering (at least the kids in our neighborhood LOL).

So many dogs do not feel comfortable around young children. They don't make any sense to them. Small children are unpredictable. They make sudden fast movements and a dog doesn't know what they are going to do.

Gus is wary of young children. He does fine with them. He is around my nephews all the time. But he keeps his distance. He prefers not to be touched by them (they pull hair). Same with kids in the neighborhood. He will sit quietly or let them throw his ball, but he doesn't want to be pet.

Grace loves kids. But her breeder had small children and so her first few months were spent surrounded by those sounds and movements.

I agree a trainer would be helpful. You would feel horrible if anything serious did happen...and Marj is right that it would be reported and Jack would be taken into quarantine.

Maybe the trainer can help Jack learn to avoid. Just go lay down somewhere.....

Kris is terrified of my grands, 5 & 7. He's always in a corner shaking. He is a rescue poodle. I think it has to do with his previous life. We try to keep them apart, but the older kid is a dog lover and wants to pet. Kris hasn't snapped, yet. I don't know what to do?

Zooey hates young children with a vengeance. Thank goodness she is being exposed to my baby nephew on a regular basis, so she can have a positive experience with a child who is being raised to be respectful around dogs. She is completely sweet with him.
