So, my vet gave me a sample of Interceptor last month and I read all the reviews about how everyone loved it. Well, now it's off the market and they offered me Trifexis or Heartgard Plus. I don't know if either of these are safe or if anyone has a recommendation. I tried to find some other posts, but it doesn't appear that anyone has any "replacement" yet.

Is Interceptor officially off the market? Our vet has been giving us free samples of Sentinel until they get some more Interceptor. The Sentinel they gave us last month has an expiration date of February 2013 which makes me think they found some older stock. I understand the shortage has lasted 11 months now but we didn't have problems getting Interceptor until September. Whipworm is an issue here and I don't think Heartguard Plus covers that.

Anna- here is my thread I opened couple weeks ago. Same issue. I am now using IverHeart Plus 0-25 lb once a month chewable pill (I gave in wet food to make sure they swallowed it, btw, there is alot of info in the thread and the Iverheart Max comes in up to 10 lb but has all the wormers in it, so I bought the plus. both did fine with it. many here use this brand. But had they not tolerated Iverheart, (vomiting, diarrhea) my next choice was Heartguard.
good luck! New Heartworm Pill!!

Anna--I would never use the trifexis, just my opinion as it is a duel med given in one pill. And I would give HW pill 2 weeks apart from flea meds.
the trifexis is HW, Flea, and Ticks in one pill.

I am not sure of this since I am not state-side, but I thought trifexis did NOT cover ticks?????

I think we'll go with the Iverheart Plus when Belle runs out of her meds...thanks for the great info everyone
. BTW Sandi, I don't believe any of them cover ticks correct?
