Gus's dew claw... front right.... Is all bright red and angry looking.
I can't tell if it feels warm... his paws tend to run warm... but keeping an eye on it. It does look puffy, and he doesn't like me touching it, but he isn't limping. I put some of the spray I use on his pads when they get sore spots on it... so I hope that helps it. When should I worry and take him in? I hate dew claws. Sigh.

I know this may be a little different since she's not a Maltese, but my boyfriend's lab had a sore on her dew claw last week. She was licking at it and that seemed to irritate it a lot. I took her to the vet and they gave her steroids and antibiotics and she has stopped licking and it healed. But I think keeping it clean probably would have done that. If he's licking at it, I would try to keep him from doing that. But I would give it a day or two and if it doesn't get better take him in.

Thanks Anna,
I'm going to put a sock on him tonight and will spray it one more time before I go to bed. I think if it's redder in the morning I'll take him in. Wondering if he snagged it while playing at my sister's yesterday?..... I left him there for about 3 hours. He had fun but I noticed his dew claw today.

Poor Gus! Those darn dew claws! Maybe try soaking it in warm water few times a day to see if that helps soothe it? If it gets very red or tender, I'd probably get it checked then. Hope it's just very minor!

It's the same this morning
![]() I'm going to call and set up an appointment for tomorrow. If the spray and keeping it clean (and dry) doesn't help today .... we will take him tomorrow. But can cancel if it gets better.

Sorry to hear about Gus. Hopefully he feels a bit better today and you won't have to take him in to the vet. He probably did irritate it running and playing.
