As you guys know, Gustave has started going to daycare. They don't allow dogs in if they are not on flea medicine. BUT, I found a flea on him this morning.
I called my vet panicking about how Revolution might not be working but he told me to calm down. He said Revolution is not a flea preventative, it kills fleas within 24-36hrs of contact and it's possible that flea had just jumped on Gustave and not died yet. The other thing he could prescribe is Trifexis, but I don't know about an oral combination pill. Does his POA sound OK to you? He asked me to use dichotomous earth to clean the whole house, wash his bedding and our bedding etc., but he thinks finding one flea on him doesn't mean Revolution isn't working. Idk what to do. I agree with your vet. Many of the topical Meds don't prevent the flea from getting on the dog- it kills them by paralyzing them when they hitchhike a ride. I am not a fan of Trifexis only because I dont like combination oral Meds. There have had some members who have had adverse reactions. I'm sure there are others who use it without issues. I wouldn't worry too much! Just wash everything in super hot water and do a good look over when your give Gustave a bath :-)

It can take awhile for the fleas to die. I use Frontline Plus and it takes 12 hours. I have seen a flea or two on Bailey's head a couple times this Fall when we first came inside, but they always die if I can't grab them.

I'm like you!! I found one flea on Laurel over a year ago , and I panicked!! None of my dog's ever had fleas!! The vet gave me Comfortis and I never saw anymore! I use .frontline Plus now, for fleas and ticks.

Yep... flea and tick medicine don't prevent fleas, which is sort of a bad advertisement on their part because they call them "preventatives".
They are insecticides...so when they bite your pet, they are killed. You could use some essential oils - spray them on him in the morning before daycare -- that would repel the fleas/ticks...they wouldn't like his smell so they wouldn't jump on board.

I also went ballistic when the groomers found a flea on Ozzie right after adopting him... I hastily sent a rather angry email to the rescue organization that I later came to regret..
They actually offered to take Ozzie BACK!!! I said no thanks, one flea isn't going to make me abandon my newly adopted baby I have already fallen in love with!!Needless to say, we washed EVERYTHING we could think of in the apt, vaccuumed, etc. and have never found any fleas since !
