Hi Everyone,
Please pray for Lulu. I took her to the neurologist last week to have her neck brace changed and I could tell when we got home that this brace isn't as tight as the last one. It allows her to have a little bit of movement in her neck when she should have none at all. I called the neuro's office and set up an appointment tomorrow to have it redone. In the meantime, we've been keeping her very still and quiet. We don't let her walk around or interact with the other pets. She lives in a laundry basket or in my arms and that's all, except when I put her down to go potty. We feed her by hand and give her water with a syringe. Last night Lulu was feeling frisky and barked at the cat. She turned her neck and screamed in pain. The most horrible sound I've ever heard come out of a dog. After we got her calmed down (and we calmed down) we made sure she could still walk and she could so we knew nothing had happened to her spinal cord. She had 2 more episodes of screaming this morning. I've texted and talked to the neuro and 2 other vets today. We ended up having our local vet meet us at his office for a pain injection and steroid shot. He gave me another syringe of pain meds to administer at home tonight if needed. He actually watched me give her the pain injection at the office so he could see if I did it right. We've been very fortunate that throughout this entire ordeal, this is the first time Lulu's experienced pain that made her cry out. The neuro doesn't think she's done any damage to the work he did. She was X-rayed when her brace was changed and he was very pleased with how it looked. He used very strong sutures, the same ones he would use on a Rottweiler, he said. He had to move her muscle tissue out of the way to work on her spine and when he got her vertebrae reconnected, it lengthened her neck. That's an awful lot of manipulation of her neck muscles. I keep thinking that's what this is all about. She may be having muscle spasms. Anyway, I'll know for sure tomorrow. Please pray for a comfortable night's rest for Lulu. Thank you so much. Jane |

I am so sorry! Poor little girl!! I pray that she heals quickly and doesn't suffer too much. Do the pain meds knock her out? If not, I would be worried they would make her think it's ok to move and she might move the wrong way. Sometimes a little pain can help keep them from moving something that's hurt. But I hope she's not in constant pain or too severe pain.

Jane, I am so sorry you and Lulu are going through this. These little ones don't realize that they shouldn't move and do certain things to not cause them pain. Praying you all have an easy night and she rests comfortably. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. Hugs to you and Lulu.
