Tori, the fact the fever went down is a very good thing. It may be the the infection is subsiding (yeah) but the original trauma is still causing pain to little Gus. If that is the case that is a great thing (not the pain, but the control of the infection). It takes time for trauma to heal, but as long as the infection is getting under control it should heal. Poor little thing. Long term steroids can cause major issues, but a steroid shot or even cortical oitment can do wonders to bring inflammation under control.

Checking to see how Gus is doing today. I'm not shocked at what happened with your vet. That has been most of my experience with doctors. It seems all they want to do is prescribe medicine. Thank goodness you are Gus's advocate and won't let them just blow you off.

Thank you all for checking in on Gus
![]() I was waiting to have better light to look at his foot. His fever is down. The foot is still hot, but the redness isn't spreading so I'm taking that as a good sign. He also ate breakfast this morning (pancakes!) so that is good too ![]() It still looks yuck... and he is still limping - and more now, not just in the evenings. We will be going in tomorrow to see our usual vet and to talk about the not so great vet.... Will be discussing removal. Last night my dad was joking around, "Buck up Gus! It's all in your head, after all!" Will update again later today. Again, thank you so much. I really appreciate all the support

Pancakes? Lucky doggy! LOL.
I'm praying that the antibiotics really kick in and that nothing more needs to be done. I know how hard this is-- especially before the holidays! Oh, and when the second vet was repeating not to let Gus lick his paw, I would have stopped right there and said-- "I need you to hear what I said." Then pause. "He is NOT licking is paw-- so what else do we need to do?" I agree with Marisa that there are other antibiotics out there that may be better. I'll be curious what your regular back-up vet says. We are at vet... Our good one. She is running labs. General, valley fever, and rerunning tick panel. Will take a few days to get back.
She was upset the other vet did nothing. Esp that they didn't listen.... Since they didnt know Gus. Will update @ home
