Soooo, Cupcake has had HORRIBLE breath for about the past month or so. Her breath was fine for the first month, but since about the end of November, it has been positively disgusting. The only other time any of my dogs had breath this bad was when they were old, or had teeth that needed pulling. Cupcake just had her teeth cleaned in October, right before we got her. So I'm not sure why her breath is so stinky. But it's so bad that I don't even want her near my face
![]() I've been giving her "breath freshening" treats (not working) & I also got these tooth wipes to clean her teeth with, but nothing is making any difference. I'm wondering if she has some teeth that should have been pulled. The other thing is that she has been having very dark, thick gunk coming from her eyes, pretty much ever since we've had her. It's very dark brown. Anyone else have this issue with their dog? It doesn't seem normal to me, but I wanted other input. FYI, all of my dogs are on grain free dog food. When I first got her, I thought that maybe her eye stuff was due to not being on a good food, but now I can rule that out since she's on a good food now. I want to take her to the vet, but my hubby thinks I'm over reacting. I really need some advice on these two things. ETA: also her bowls are ceramic & our water is good, so I don't think that is the problem with her eyes. Thanks in advance.

I don't think it would be over-reacting to take her to the vet. The two issues are probably related and probably caused by an infection. Make an appointment right away.

I have a hunch the two things are related. You are not over reacting. She may have an abcessed tooth. Have the vet check it out.

Ok, we went to the vet & the vet said her tear stains are normal & told me to use angel eyes (& she gave me a bottle to get started) she assured me its safe to use & that the amount of antibiotic is minimal & is just enough to prevent staining. She also said that Cupcake already has tartar building up & will need to get her teeth cleaned within the next few months if we want to avoid extractions. But she gave me a sample of this spray to help slow down the tartar buildup & to help with her breath in the meantime. I asked if her teeth weren't cleaned well before & she said sometimes some dogs are just more prone to building up tartar more quickly. I also had her check her ears because she has been scratching at them for the past few days. She said they were a little inflamed & gave me some drops for that too.
I'm glad I went to get her checked so now I don't have to worry if she's ok. I still have a feeling she's gonna need a tooth or a few pulled when she goes in. I guess we'll see.
