Default Lulu is home again

We brought our baby home today after her 2nd surgery and 5 days in the hospital. This is a whole different experience than the first time. I took her outside on the grass to go potty when we got home and she can't stand or walk. Her legs are floppy. My big, macho husband and I both cried when we saw how limp her legs are.

The surgeon says he's not too concerned at this point. She's been through two major operations and she's weak. He said the way she bounced back so fast after the first surgery was very unusual. The way she's acting now is more typical. He said we should look for her to improve a little each day.

She's been sleeping most of the time since she's been home. She doesn't seem to be in pain at all. She has eaten and we've given her water. She hasn't peed in the 8 hours we've had her. I've texted the vet to ask what to do about that. We have her laying on one of my grandson's diapers just in case. I always feel better after they pee and poop and I know everything's working. Probably a mom-thing, right?

Thanks for listening (reading),
Jane

So happy Lulu is home with you. I do believe that it will take time for her to walk and be strong. Prayers for her to get well ASAP. Please do keep us posted. Hugs!!

Jane - I'm glad she's home with you and hoping that things will improve, little by little. She's been through a lot so the vet is probably right. Can you fashion some sort of midsection sling to help her go to the bathroom? I think that Sandi did that after Kitzels surgery. It took the weight off the back. Keep us posted and sending prayers for Lulu.

I'm glad she's home.... It's a lot for a little dog to go through!

I will keep praying for Lulu

Jasmine had surgery on both of her back legs this summer and she had problems going to the bathroom too. Use a bath towel and hold her hind legs up with that.

So glad she is home with you. I know I would have had the same reaction seeing the weakness but I'm sure she will slowly gain strength again. One day at a time and know that she is in my thoughts and prayers.
