Sophie update - Maltese Dogs Forum : Spoiled Maltese Forums

Some of you may know that our Sophie was diagnosed last year with a form of GME. Her condition is no way near what sweet Lola had, although there was a time last year we thought we were going to loose her. I received info from Pam about Dr. Sisson but we never made it there. Our vet here at NC State University have been wonderful and she is now down from 5mg of predisone 1 mg a day. They will be weening her off lefulomide in the next 3 weeks and with hopes of also decreasing her predisone. She does get cytosar shots every 6 weeks now, for now which we started off at 4 weeks between each session, and we are hoping that we can continue to stretch that out. Sophie's condition is NUE, which means they don't know what really caused it, I think because there was nothing to show that she was infected with. Although she has loss muscle mass, she is so much better...

I'm so glad that she's getting better! I pray 2013 brings healing to sweet Sophie.
On a side note, I saw "Sophie update" as the title and thought "I didn't write that.." Lol!

Diane, I am so thrilled that Sophie is doing well! The vets at NC State are amazing, aren't they? They helped my Lady so much, too.

NC State has been very involved with GME research and diagnosis for years:

Diane, so sorry Sophie is going through this but I am happy she is doing okay. Hopefully 2013 will bring much health to Sophie. Hugs to you both!
