I thought I had posted about this but apparently I had not.
After much research, consults, etc. we've decided to not do the surgery. He did have that one incident when he had his leg 'pulled-up' but massage soon took care of that and he's been fine ever since. He shows no indication whatsoever of being in discomfort, and he's heading to 10 years old, shows no signs of arthritic pain. I've also been advised that surgery would not necessarily ward off arthritis anyway. I am adding a glucosamine/Chondritin/MSM supplement to his diet. I'm continuing massage and a bit more exercise as well. He truly is showing no signs of discomfort and is bearing weight on that leg. That was a big concern of mine when he had it pulled up... that he'd injure the other by putting all weight on that other leg. That is no longer a problem. I was also advised that the surgery is not 100% guarantee of a full 'fix". It's felt that since at his age and he's doing so well... that putting him thru all that wasn't necessary. I had already made up my mind but was confirmed when I had a visit from our previous vet ( who we LOVE!) . I told her about the knee/surgery decision. She had stopped by and watched Quincy walk/play etc while she was here..... She said I made the right decision!

Terry I think that you are making the right decision also. I think the supplements are great, I give them daily. That is what they say, if they're not showing any signs of pain, (and with a leg you can tell) no surgery, just keep an eye out. Good news!

So glad that you guys came to the decision that is best for Quincy. I know it must have been a really hard choice. Sounds like you are on the right path for him

Good. I'd hate for poor wittle Quincy to have to have surgery. MiMi sends a little kiss for his boo boo and one for his sissy too.
