Default Sweetness - my little Toothless Wonder

Well, she's almost toothless. She had 8 teeth going into yesterday's dental and she's only got her two upper canines left.

She had no tarter or calculus and no gum disease, but she had very little bone supporting the teeth so they were all very loose and falling out. Our vet referred us to a dental specialist and he was wonderful. During the initial consult, he said that bone grafts in the molars and premolars of very small dogs aren't usually successful so he recommended extracting those and trying to save the canines if that was at all possible. The procedure took almost two hours, and she did very well. She's a little mopey today but I would be too if I'd had that much oral surgery!

Love love love Dr. Juriga and his staff - they are the best!

I'm happy to hear she did well through the dental surgery. I imagine Pipper will end up with no teeth someday ( and yup I brush them every day) since he had 11 removed in January and he's only 5 1/2 years old. His were the same....loose and falling out. On the good side, I guess you won't have to worry much about dentals anymore.

You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

I think she & I may be alike---I am worried about my own teeth & I hate the dentist---am allergic to local anesthesia & have had 3 anaphylactic reactions. I am due to go this summer. Sweetness, I understand!

Glad to hear that she did well with her Dental. Our Chrissy just had 6 more teeth removed as well due to bone loss and is doing great. She has lost quite a bit of her teeth as well and it sure does not prohibit her from eating her food.

Main thing is she's doing fine now and everything went well!

I'm always so scared of anasthesia's for our little ones and I can imagine how relieved you are it's done now!
Have to a admit I'm quite obsessed to do everything to keep her teeth clean and healthy as long as possible but sometimes you can try whatever you want it's just genetic!

Sending lots of healing hugs to your precious little girl!

My lovely girls Ullana & Vanessa!

Poor baby, I worry about Maddie, she fights me when I try to brush her teeth so I gave up. Matilda was such a good girl she let me brush her teeth. Her teeth were great.
Give precious Sweetness loves from her auntie Paula

Rylee was nearly toothless and the few teeth Bitsy has left are worn down , nearly to the gumline
Sassy still has most of her teeth and so does Amber..Emily and Sasha have lost about 1/4th of their teeth. Still pretty good at 13 ,almost 14 though.

Maggie, I am so happy for you and Sweetness. I am grateful that you shared why Sweetness had to have so many teeth extracted. Almost the same thing happened to Snowball in late October. He had fourteen teeth extracted and I was stunned at the time. (He still has twelve left) It was a shock ... because like, Sweetness ... there was not any plaque and his teeth were white. His teeth were loosening due to bone loss. I have always and still continue to clean his teeth every day.

You, too, were blessed to have such a wonderful doctor and staff for Sweetness. I am still in awe that with all Snowball's teeth extractions, and especially with his big risk for anesthesia (due to last year's heart attack) ... he still did so well. When he came home he had no complications what-so-ever.

Here is a picture of Snowball with his Earth Angel dentist Dr. Chamberlain. Note the *Welcome Back, Snowball* that greeted us as we walked into the examining room. Sorry the pictures are upside down ... kind of like my day so far. LOL

Please give Sweetness some gentle hugs from me.
