Birthday Buddy Question/Poll - Maltese Dogs Forum : Spoiled Maltese Forums

For the last 2 years (2011 and 2012) we have tried a variation on the Secret Santa Buddy, and neither have been very successful.

In 2011, we had an Annual Buddy assignment but only if the participants donated a small amount to rescue.

In 2012, we had an Annual Buddy event without the rescue donation portion.

Many of our SM friends signed up and were assigned buddies, but their buddies never heard from them during the year. Many of our SM friends mentioned to me that they have never heard from their buddy or that their buddy has never acknowledged receipt of their gifts.

The events were so disappointing that many of our old-time members have said that they are very hesitant to participate again.

My thought for this year is to have a Birthday Buddy event, where participants would be assigned a buddy for their birthday (or gottcha day) and would send only 1 present a year with a cost of $10-20. I would also send out blind emails and pms the month prior to remind participants of birthdays coming up the following month. BUT -- if we do hold this event, we need to be certain that participants will follow through on their obligation.

Hence the poll. Also, if you have an idea of how we can make an event like this more successful, please let me know.

I loved the annual buddy, but maybe it will be easier with just the Birthday to remember. I'd love to participate again!

I would love to participate in this! I love that everyone celebrates their fluffs birthdays like any other family member. I can't wait to make Sophie's first birthday special, even if it is another 8 months away

Lyndsy -- overseas members are eligible to participate. Orla leaves in Ireland (as an example).

We have members in Germany, England, Greece, UAE, Australia, Italy and other place in addition to U.S. and Canada.

I'd do it for our gotcha days..... Gus and Grace both have December birthdays...so that would be a double whammy for Secret Santa....

So I'd do it... but I'd sign up for our Gotcha days
