I think Louie is having an off day - Maltese Dogs Forum : Spoiled Maltese Forums

Spending as much time with Louie as I do I am quick to pickup on changes in behavior. Today I noticed he is sleeping much more than normal and has only wanted to go out to potty a couple times. He has spent most of the day sleeping on some of my clothes next to my bed. he has come out once or twice to eat and drink and has come over a few times to play fetch and he seemed normal playing, quick, very fast reaction time to how the ball bounced and very lively the whole time playing. its just it seems that for some reason today he is sleeping much more than normal. I know he hasn't gotten into anything he shouldn't as anything like that it out of his reach. I've also checked all of the obvious, his nose is moist and cool, body temp is normal, eyes are clear and loving as ever. I'm probably over reacting since he is my best friend but I will be closely watching him the rest of the night and checking him first thing in the morning.

Maybe Louie is just taking a pajama day......I hope it is nothing.

You are probably right. He just climbed up on my lap and started licking me, and he doesn't just lick once or twice, he'll bathe you if you let him. I am just so used to him being a more active and it being a nice day he wasn't interested in being outside much. Its not like our lazy Sundays where he and I take a nap in the afternoon. He just didn't seem to want to sleep anywhere other then on my clothes by the bed and he is normally hanging around me much more.

Maybe Louie read your post about getting a Doberman and is feeling depressed that you don't trust him to protect your property. I am sort of kidding, since I know he probably can't read your computer...but he CAN read your mind. Or he could just be having an off day as we all do.

LOL. I trust Louie just fine. I decided to put off getting another dog at least for awhile. Right now any extra money is going towards fixing up the new bike so Louie and I can get some good riding in next spring.

Has the weather changed colder at all? I know when the weather turned colder here Sophie took a day of lounging and rest. I was really worried, but she was just like you described. She was back tormenting the children I nanny the next day.

I think that is a wise decision. Louie will most likely agree. It seems that Louie wants to be the center of your universe and has dedicated his life to that end. It seems that he loves you with all his heart and lives to please you. You are so lucky to have that devoted little guy in your life. period. He will defend your home and your possessions. You do not need another dog. Louie is devoted to you.

The weather has been up and down here but today was a nice day.

He seems fine now but I will be keeping a close eye on him. Sometimes I think I keep too close of an eye on him as I was already starting to wonder about this hours ago and yesterday he was just fine.

I'm thinking the same thing. Time spent training another dog would take away from Louie time. He already has Miss Boo competing for my attention but luckily I have plenty of time for both of them since she is just as spoiled and she is a daddy's girl. Both of them like my girlfriend but its real easy to tell I am their favorite since I do all of the care taking for them both.
