You might do better with a soft collar to prevent licking the incision. On the other hand, you might not even need anything. For all the time my dogs over many years had surgery most often they didn't bother it. The other thought is that you don't necessarily want to reduce airflow to the healing wound. You would probably be better off with a soft collar. I can't give advise as I haven't use one, but others have. Look up some old threads.

I bought a onesie at a resale shop when Daisy got spayed. Never used it and she never bothered her incision. However, they usually snap at the bottom and you just put the legs through. Or you might not even need to snap it at all.

That was a problem when I got Halo neutered. I ended up using the E-Collar for Halo. He was used to go potty on the pads whenever he needed to. He didn't want to walk or move so I had to pick him up and put him on the pad when had to go. We kept his stitches open so air could get to it and heal and my mom cleaned the stitches when they looked crusty (he wasn't a happy camper).
He reminded me of Doug from Up with the Collar on. |

Is this for Becky's spay? Or her liver surgery?
Her liver surgery - the incision will be higher up. A shirt may work to cover it while you can watch her...just make sure it isn't too tight, and that it is cotton (breathes) I'll be using a cone for at night for Grace since she won't be supervised while I'm sleeping.

You can put them on backwards and leave one snap open for the tail. They are very cheap at Walmart. Get the 0-3 month size!

Anna, I would leave it open---that way you can make sure it isn't getting infected & the air will heal it faster. Also, I would use a soft collar just to be certain she doesn't get at the stitches. I think you can get used to looking at the incision if you remind yourself that it is for her good!
I have not been on SM much or read very many postings for a while---when is her surgery?
