Louie loves the snow, he rolls in it and runs through snow that is well higher than his stomach. I have to towel him off as soon as he walks in as he gets snow stuck all over his fur. I have to shovel off areas of the grass for him to walk through and do his business. He refuses to go potty anywhere but outside. As soon as he is toweled off we play fetch for a while so he can warm up from the inside out. If it is real cold or he is out longer than I like doing his business I wrap him in the towel on the floor and I curl up with him to warm him with my body (he doesn't like hair driers) Most of the time he pretty much goes right to doing his business and comes back in but there are times something distracts him and he won't potty until the distraction is gone.

I had a Maltese like Louie, he loved the snow! I had a hard time getting him to come in. He'd be covered with snowballs !!

Can you pop a towel into the dryer when Louie goes out....then when he gets in, it will be nice a warm. Shake the towel out first before wrapping him to let any heat spots out.
I do this with my two for baths in the winter.... helps them warm up

I can only imagine a Malt in the snow! Camouflaged if they weren't rugged up.
We had the opposite problem today. 42.3c (108F) and the grass was too hot to walk on, so I had to try and get Puppy to use the pee pad. Yikes! |

I would video him except around here I need to be able to see a much larger field of view than what I'd see through a camera since this is a nature preserve area and there are multiple threats from wild animals and birds of prey. I don't always go out with him in bad weather but I have his tie out in hand so I can reel him back in from the door and I never leave the door until he is back in. I am constantly watching all directions for any possible threat. His tie out is only 20 feet so I can be where he is in seconds if I need to run out the door. I also always look around both in the air and up and down the street before I let him out.

That sounds just like our 1st maltese. He loved the snow would bring snow balls into the house. He been gone since 1996. On our third one now. Number 2 hated the snow and ice. This one does not like rain but seems to like the snow.

That is why Louie and I are such a great fit, we are both slightly insane! I ride my motorcycle in below freezing weather. Ever ride a motorcycle when its below freezing and you're going 45 mph? Think of the wind chill factor of a 45 mph wind and you can understand why I get some looks from people thinking "who is this crazy nut?"

Isabella loves the snow as well. The snowbanks are pretty high now but my husband snow blows little paths for her to follow. I think if she leaped off the front deck (the snow is up to the decking itself), it would take a concerted effort to find her. We'd have to look for that little black nose and round eyes. We haven't been out for a few weeks as it has been very cold. It is -4 C today so I think we will venture out for a bit this morning.
