Default Maltese and traveling on a big truck

Mia will be going on the 18-wheeler when I travel with my husband...which I do twice a year...in the spring and then again in the fall for about 5 weeks each time. Does anyone else do this, and if so, I could use some tips and hints to make it easy or at least easier. Thanks.

Never ridden in one but have been in several different cabs (for work). I'd think the most important thing is to make sure there's a way for your baby to stay securely in one place - car seat, carrier, something that will keep your baby safely in one place while the rig is moving.

I think that sounds like a whole lot of fun!

I've never been in one but that sounds fun! Good luck and have a great trip! Will you have a way to still come here while you're gone?

Does sound like fun!!

How exciting!

I don't have any experience with truck driving and fluffs.... But Gus is a great roadie.

Is there room for her to have a little seat? Not sure the set up. I had Gus's car seat in the back with a cushy blanket. He was happy to just ride and nap quiet a bit.

We only had to stop every 4-6 hours but he could have gone longer.

Make sure she has good ID - microchip, and a good easy to read tag.

Have fun!!

She will ride in my lap in a carrier on the road. The cabs have double bunks, and I sleep on the bottom so she will sleep with me. I'll be taking a waterless shampoo for inbetween bath times.

And, yes, we travel with laptops, smart phones, and tablets. So I will be on here quite a bit and giving progress reports.

Thanks for all the tips.

I went with my friend when she was coming back to Ohio, 3 loooong days with two fluffs. Al didnt' want me to drive back to Ohio by myself. I had a safety harness attached to my seat belt for the fluffs and when I slept on the bottom bunk,I they slept with me...
My step son has a dog on his truck as a travelling companion. Make sure to have bottled water, you never know what is in tap water. when I let them out to potty, I use baby wipes to clean feet, never know what they're stepping in.....we even wipe our shoes off with baby wipes, who knows what we're stepping in either....

Have a doggie first aid kit along for emergencies, things like Benedryl, Kopectate for diareah, when can happen when first traveling....Veterecyn (sp) spray and peroxide and cotton balls ...for any boo boos they might get and check on animal emergency rooms in the area, just in case... Baby aspirin. waterless shampoo...
Make sure to have collar on with ID tags with mobile phone number on tag , plus micro chipped and info up to date... Vet records in plastic slip cover or note book...
Poo baggies...

What is Vetercyn?? Everything else I had down on a list I'm making for the future.

I'm going to buy her a small bed when we go to Petco to be placed on our bed at night and that way she will be used to it and sleep in it on the bunk with me.

I want to try and find a carrier that I wear so she can sit with me during the driving hours. That way she can look out the window or sleep at will. Can anyone recommend one.

This won't happen for awhile. I don't go out until spring again and then again during the fall when the leaves change.
