Thanks so much for the info. Hoping the folks who posted previously will see it and be able to step in before this pup ends up in the wrong hands

Hi everyone. Although I haven't posted in a long time, I have continued to frequent the Spoiled Maltese forums because it's a great place to pick up helpful hints. I saw this thread when it first went up. I live about 90 minutes from Somerset and have wanted to add another Malt to our family, so I too called and left a message about this little guy. I didn't hear back right away, but I did finally get a call from these folks and decided to go see this baby in person. Long story short, Buttons joined our family Wednesday night!
In the 48 hours that we've had him, he has adjusted very well and is a good little boy. He wasn't without problems, however. He had an awful flea problem, so the first thing we did was give him a flea bath. Then we had to cut major mats off of his legs that were constricting his skin. His skin was also very inflamed and extremely itchy all over from the flea bites. The minimal paperwork we received shows that he is around 7 years old, not 4 as was advertised, and he did not appear to be current on his shots after all. His dew claws were grown into his skin and beginning to get infected, his skin is scaly, and his coat coarse and thinning. We took him to the vet yesterday to get his necessary immunizations and to get his medical needs tended to. He has severe allergies that are affecting his skin and ears, although it could be an allergy to the flea bites and not something else in his environment. Only time will tell. He was given an antibiotic to take care of the infected dew claws and a shot to help his allergies and soothe his itchy skin. We also learned he has tapeworms, so he is being treated for that, too. The good news is that despite all of that, he is otherwise healthy. His teeth are in really good condition, and his overall weight is also very good. He is heartworm negative, so we were obviously pleased to hear that news as well. He's quite the little cuddle bug. Wherever I am, he has to be there (and he really prefers my lap)! In fact, he is laying beside me right now, sound asleep. He has also adjusted very well to Kasey and Angel, and they seem to have adjusted to him, too. Given time, grooming, and the good quality food we give our Malts, I expect we will see a totally transformed dog in a few months. I see from the earlier posts in this thread that folks were really concerned about him, so I thought you would all appreciate an update. I just wanted everyone to know that Buttons is safe and sound and loved already by his new family! |

I'm very glad to hear this happy ending too. I am not surprised he is adjusting well and must be so content with much deserved TLC from you and your family.
