Is there a conflict in your house over how your dogs are cut? I prefer short bodies, longer legs, topknot. I prefer a tidy look. Grant it, when it warms up, legs will likely be short too just because we enjoy the outdoors and they pick up too many things.
DH likes sheepdogs. He wants everything to look like an old english sheep dog. He pitches a fit when I mention clipping Rocky who is currently unbearably shaggy. He does not brush him daily-I try to explain I have to chop out the matts. It leads to some decent family arguments (of all things to argue about) where in the end I'm always made to feel guilty for once again getting my way if I get to trim him down. I can't stand shaggy. How is it in your home? |

There are no arguments yet, as Izzy is just 7 months old and has not had a hair cut yet, but we do have some arguments on the clothes I have been buying, LOL.

Just to add in, my husband thinks she looks like the Coca-cola polar bear, because she has had her tail bobbed and she has a long snout. IDK what he will think when she does get her first hair cut come this spring.

Maybe DH Could Get A SheepDog?
I Love The Short puppy cuts-its alot for us moms to take care of when the hair starts to get shaggy. I Dont Think Shaggy Is On the List of Maltese Cuts. Honey I Live Alone. So I Only Disagree with myself. Somewhow i think you will get your way. Nickee in Pa*

No arguments here. Husband has his opinions and I respect them (as much as possible), but it's finally my call. Same for anything Gustave. I am the one who read like 20 books, I did the research for finding a dog, I'm the one on Spoiled maltese all the time, so he respects that I have more knowledge in this area. I let him take over in other areas of our life where he knows more. It's win-win.

Oh how he wuould love one. But honestly I do not want any more dogs. To feed them the way I want it is far too expensive, plus vet bills...I think it is too much. Plus, I am the only one doing any grooming. Two dogs, ok, but I never want more than two at a time.

We have not argued over it......yet....lol. I always say I would like a Town and Country cut for Zoe but DH likes her hair long. Just like your situation my DH doesn't bathe, groom, brush, dematt and all the other fun stuff. So when the time comes that I am tired of the long hair I will cut it so its easier for me.

I think there is an easy solution to end the arguments:
Just tell him you would be happy to have Rocky in as long a coat as he would like as long as HE commits to the DAILY grooming that would be required: Brushing, careful combing through every inch - including the inside of the legs (which I find to be the worst area to mat) - weekly bathing, conditioning, and blow-drying. Explain briefly that it is painful for maltese to have mats worked out if the mats are left to grow more snarled, so daily grooming is required to maintain good health and comfort for long haired dogs. Also state simply that the first day/week that HE doesn't live up to his commitment, or if you start finding mats due to inadequate grooming, you will assume that he is agreeing that he wants you to take Rocky to the groomer for a haircut. Don't discuss it or threaten or get back into arguments about taking Rocky for a haircut, if you find he is not living up to his end of the bargain, just do it. Don't argue about it, don't discuss it, just lay out your position one time as to how it has to be to keep Rocky comfortable and healthy, and walk away. Now the ball is in his court. He can keep the coat as long as he wants as long as he is willing to do what it takes to maintain it. This way he's in control of the situation, the choice is his.
