I always fed Toby dry food until last Spring when he had that UTI and needed to drink more water. So I began buying canned dog food and mixing it with water to get him to drink.

I usually buy the canned food at a local dog boutique. The last few times I have gone in there, the owner has not only raised her prices (a can of food went from $1.89 to $2.70!), but she has a lot less to choose from.

The last few times I have picked up Merrick because that is about all she had in canned food. Anyway, when I open the can, over half of the contents is "gravy." What the heck am I paying that kind of money for?

I am switching to another brand of canned food, from another store that has a better selection.

Thanks for letting me vent! LOL

Ummmmm.....water! You are paying for flavored water.

Sorry Nicole............I could not resist. Have you considered adding a little canned chicken broth (low sodium/fat free) to Toby's dry food? I bet he would like it.

Wow that is a big increase. Glad you're doing another brand too, all that Merrick rendering plant business just leaves me with a funny feeling about them. With this new place, perhaps you could buy by the case for a better price?

What's wrong with Merrick? I thought they were one of the companies that wasn't affected by the recall. UGH! You can't keep up with it!

Yikes, we spend a lot on canned food also. 2 of The Boyz eat Prescription Diet i/d for sensitive tummies and Chase can only eat Prescription Diet z/d as he has colitis. They all graze on Royal Canin Venison and Potato.

We found out with our first Malt, Bogey, that chews such as rawhides etc are processed in formeldehyde amongst other things and WERE causing him to have frequent UTI's. We never let the Boyz have those anymore. We fix Kongs with a few treats inside.
