Default Lifetime Membership

Hi, quick question: is the lifetime membership a one-time fee of $50 or $50 a year?

I didn't know about it either until I saw the "upgrade my membership" link at the top right corner of my screen. Maybe it's new? It is definitely a better deal than paying $20/year, every year!

Well, it sounds like a good deal ... as long as the world doesn't end in the year 2012!

Before the site was sold, I thought that a percentage of the dues (maybe $2?) went to a rescue type of organization...is this still going on? Or does the entire amount go to the new site owners? Just curious as I don't see that mentioned anymore where the dues are listed.

Yes, and how does the upgrade affect us? I just let my premium membership lapse a week ago because I do not know the current benefits on the new forum of being a paid member.

Before I paid for the membership out of a sense of shared community as Joe was running the site himself, but now that we are corporate owned I do not know what I am contributing to and why really.

Lifetime memberships is a ONE TIME cost. It's a huge savings for users in the long run.

Funds are used towards maintaining this site on a 24/7 around the clock basis.

The benefits of different membership levels are listed and no one is forced to become a paid member. All content to SM is free. Paid members obviously get some lovely perks.

I'm curious to know if (other than saving money in the long run), if the there are more perks with the lifetime membership than the $20 a year membership. If the forum gets back to where we were before (especially with the picture space problem)....I might be interested in this.

Aside from the current image uploading space issue, can you be specific about "if the forum gets back to where we were before?"

This will help me to identify what needs to be tweaked/fixed and what we cannot do any longer. Thanks!
