There is an article on MSN about some idiot that has started a business LEASING pets!!!You pay a monthly fee and you get to keep it for another month. If you are late with a payment, they come and repossess your pet!! Hannah Pet Society in Portland OR. There are 2 storefronts that you can "lease" them from. How low can someone get!!!!!

I'm not sure how I feel about it. While I can see how messed up that is, what if this was only for pets that didn't get adopted from a shelter. I mean, it's better than killing them, right?

Why would you "LEASE" a pet??? I mean, shelters have them for $100. People are whacky!!

I'm kinda with you on this. If these are pets from a shelter it's better than them being euthanized. And really once they spend some time with that sweet baby, they won't want to give it back. Maybe there's more to the story and this is a new weird way to adopt pups with profits going to shelters.

The way the article reads, I don't think that it has anything to do with the shelters. This is for profit--pure and simple. When the pet gets older, you trade it in for a younger one and who knows what happens to the older baby? The monthly fee you pay includes their food, treats and their vet. You have no say over any of this.

I could NOT believe this. So, I googled Hannah Pet Society and read about it on Dogster. From what I understand they are not in fact leasing you the pet, but a package that includes for a vet care. It seems their dogs come from rescue or owners who are unable to keep their dogs, at least for the most part. The reason that they maintain "title" to the dogs (they claim) is to have the low cost pet insurance. The people who posted on the subject said they will not reposes the dog if you fail to pay, only stop the services they provide.

This still sounds odd to me, but read for yourself..........

That is so bizarre and cruel!! Imagine having to get used to new people and new homes every month... poor babies

That's just horrible! I feel bad for the poor little things going from place to place, never getting to have a permanent home or attach to one family or person. Too sad! I couldn't read it all.
